There is no doubt in my mind that No Man’s Sky (release: June 2016) will be the most surprising game of this year.
This game is so different from what we know, it has been developed and at the same time it has not.
They made some sort of divine code and let it loose to create a universe. Literally! It’s a game created by laws setup in advance, which alsmost makes it more of a science project than game developing, and the Valhalla for biologists.
The universe in this game is so big that, we the players will never be able to discover all of it, even if we spend our entire lifetime on it.
The creator has even gone so far to say: “that our own sun will die sooner before we can fully explore his created universe.” I can not wrap my mind around its hugeness. And that is only the “size”, this universe has inhabitants living in it. Almost all of the creatures are unknown even for the maker. All created by their laws, setup in advance.
Just stand still and let that sink in your mind, imagine this tech of galaxy building being used to make only one planet. Make it a fantasy setting, and create a MMO with an ever-changing environment, where you the player really can make a difference in the world. No man’s sky will change the way we perceive game worlds as we know it.
Welcome to the future.
Also among the night sky in No man’s sky, somewhere among the stars is a system, full of planets and creatures that are named after Stephen Colbert…. MUST FIND THIS PLACE!
